February, and instead of our usual spring drive to Morzine, a trip to Les Houches in the Chamonix valley. Peering out into the dark on the coach up from Geneva there didn't look like there was going to be much snow. We didn't need to worry. The first morning we opened the curtains to plenty of the white stuff. Over the next week it didn't stop. Each day more of the various Chamonix ski areas were closed due to too much snow.
By the end of the week we had to hop on the train to Saint Gervais to find open lifts.
Les Houches isn't just a place to grab a lift. There's a church that inspired Marc Chagall, some great eateries and a French-Candian brew pub.
A glorious week in the mountains.
